Step by step guide to using the diamond drill bit
Most the materials we have today for which we need to drill holes are glass, tiles or concrete. These are hard materials unlike wood which is not that hard, the most appropriate drill bit is the diamond drill bit. However we need to be very cautious of how we approach drilling a hole into these materials.
Diamond is a hard material which is used nowadays in the industry for drilling holes into the hard materials I mentioned above. The diamond drill bits have diamond on the tip of the drill bit either sintered or bonded. Here is my step by step guide to use the diamond drill bits which will help reduce the damage to the drill bits thereby reducing your cost of procurement of these drill bits.
Now two things, which we will focus on while we learn how to use is the speed of the drilling tool and the other is preventing heat from damaging the tool.
Diamond drill bits are always to be used at slower speeds as fast speed can damage them and also generate more heat. The optimal speeds are 700-1000RPM.The speed can vary based on the overall diameter for example for 6mm you may have the speed at max 2000 RPM.
The next important step is to keep the drill bits cool by use of water. The water will help the drill bit being cooler while the drilling action is going on and also remove the debris of the drilling action as well as help in lubrication. Try using the washing up bottle or any other mechanism to pour water directly onto the surface being drilled.
Slowly and steady wins the game and that applies to your drilling action. Start slowly, tilt the drill bit to scrape the surface a bit and then do the drilling action in a more vertical fashion. The best is to
have template or support on top of the surface being drilled as that will help you prevent from slipping and will gain more strong hold onto the drilling action.
Lastly use gentle pressure to drill and then do a repeatable action of drilling a bit and then taking out the drill and let water do its lubrication. Repeat this process till you find that you have completed
the process and drilled a proper hole.
